Our Curriculum

We cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The yearly overview provided gives an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term.

Class Information and Homework

PE Lessons

We have PE lessons twice a week so please ensure your child has their P.E. kit in school at the beginning of each week and it is named.

Reading

At Wingate Primary School, we aim to foster a love of reading and to increase exposure to different types of texts. Through regular whole class reading, we aim to develop our fluency and comprehension skills.

We encourage the use of Bug Club for children to access a range of different texts at home as well as in school.  At the end of each school day we have Dream Time, where we read a text which is chosen by the class.

Maths

Children are encouraged to use Times Tables Rock Stars regularly at home with a weekly target of around 20 minutes to build speed, accuracy and confidence. This is to prepare them for their Year 4 multiplication check in June.

Homework

Homework is sent home each Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday.  Each week there will be a maths, spelling and writing focus. We also encourage children to log onto Times Table Rock Stars and Bug Club regularly at home. If you have any questions about our homework, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
